A recent Michigan State University study has found that spending too much time in dimly lit rooms may actually change the brain’s structure and harm memory and learning abilities. From researchers at the Princeton University Neuroscience Institute, “Multiple stimuli present in the visual field at the same time compete for neural representation by mutually suppressing their evoked activity throughout the visual cortex, providing a neural correlate for the limited processing capacity of the visual system.” Clutter can have a negative effect on your focus. Start by decluttering your work environment. In preparation of a focus block, make sure you have the tools you need (whether physical tools or online tools) BEFORE your focus block starts.
